Bless Your WHO?

What Does “Bless Your Enemies” Mean?

When Rabbi Yeshua Jesus) taught us to “Bless your enemies” He likely wasn't saying to wish upon then rewards for doing evil and persecuting others. He was in fact, probably referring to the common Hebrew Blessing “Shalom Aleichem”. This phrase roughly means “Divine Peace be In You” or “May you find peace with The Creator (by aligning with His Principles and Purposes)”. This is both greeting, blessing, and praying for your enemies, as well as praying for their salvation and speaking life into their soul.

Any blessings other than Shalom Aleichem that we could pray for someone would simply help them to destroy themselves and others in quicker manner. What would a violent person do with more energy? A greedy person do with more wealth? A tyrant do with more power?

The blessing of Peace with God (Shalom) is the only thing that truly blesses, because without this essential thing in someone’s life, all others blessings they will use to curse themselves and others. The lack of Shalom in their life, is probably the very thing that made this person your enemy in the first place.

Ofcourse, small acts of kindness such as giving your enemy a canteen of water when he is dying of thirst in the desert will pour the shame of burning coals on his head (shame), as well as show the goodness of your cause in the public eye and in history. Just look at how Salahadin was honored in history for his leniency towards captured Crusaders. In the words of Abraham Lincoln "I best defeat my enemy by making him my friend"
